Today I find myself awash with confusion.
I've been donated this grey marl Fitness First branded T-shirt from lifestyle magazine Men's Fitness which carries the prominent message "Reward Yourself" across the centre of the chest against a slanty red graphic.
As I've been working particularly hard lately (many recent updates to my illustration and design portfolio last week), I decided to take heed of this tee's suggestion and reward myself. I just gorged my way through two Meat Feast pizzas, a chicken wing box combo, a box of chicken dippers, a box of cheesey garlic bread, a selection of dips, two bottles of coke and several beers, all of which were fantastic.
What confuses me is why a fitness orientated enterprise would recommend such practices. It almost seems like this T-shirt's best interest should be promoting being active and eating healthily instead. I'm no marketing genius but slogans like "Punish Yourself" or "Feel awful about your life and face" would stand a much better chance of coaxing people to reconsider their lifestyle. Upon reading something like that, I would have immediately dropped to the ground and begun a slog through seven hundred press ups. Instead, every time I've caught sight of this design in a reflection today, I've eaten an entire family-size box of Maltesers.
