On to Day 4 of my THREEHUNDREDANDSIXTEEFIVE T-shirt challenge 'Extra Time' and Penny K has struck again!
Remember back on Day 322 when I carried out a lengthy investigation into who anonymously sent two T-shirts to my project, and it turned to be Penny K, a cheerful citizen of America's South Dakota? Well, this is the second tee she sent – a very bright green souvenir from the 2013 Polar Plunge event in conjunction with the South Dakota Special Olympics.
From what I've seen on the Facebook page, the Polar Plunge is a fund raising event that encourages participants to jump into cold water. Freezing cold water. Water that has been exposed beneath a frozen lake via a hole carved out with chainsaws. Basically, utter madness.
Teams of participants are sponsored by the community to wear an outfit of their choice (ranging from T-shirts and shorts to wedding dresses) and then hurl themselves into the icy depths, paddle about a bit, and then get out wondering what the Hell they were thinking.
Last year's T-shirt shows an illustration of a sopping wet polar bear climbing out of the drink onto a nearby iceberg, beneath the Polar Plunge title text. On the reverse of the garment is a print offering kudos to all the corporate sponsors who generated money for the good cause.
As delightful as this T-shirt is, it does leave a number of questions unanswered, and we all know how Penny enjoys a good mystery. I want to know if Penny took part in the 2013 plunge? Or if she plans to take part in this next month's? Or if she's ever met a polar bear?
Thanks again Penny!
