"If you go into the woods today,
You'd better go in disguise.
If you go into the woods today,
Prepare for a big surprise.
'Cause every bear that ever there was,
Will gather there for certain because,
Today's the day the bears are having a rave" - Tim Minchin
One of the finest T-shirt purchases I ever made occurred last year in a boutique store down in Brighton. I ended up walking away with two beautifully illustrated tees by brand Dephect, one of which I am now wearing for Day 232 of my THREEHUNDREDANDSIXTEEFIVE challenge.
The black print shows an impressively detailed line drawing of a tree stump that's been retrofitted as a turntable, creatively fusing the worlds of nature and manufacture. Close attention has been made to the similarity of the shapes of both elements, allowing this hybrid idea to form, and it leads me to wonder what other woodland rhetoric bears (haha) resemblance to the club scene. Vine-like power cables, sunflower speakers, earthworm revellers getting smashed off their faces (?) on sap and hooking up with brightly coloured glow worms under the swirling display of fireflies.
Now that I think about it, I did once design a poster campaign for Dawn On The Lawn festival that made use of the same music-meets-outdoors festival vibe...
